For volunteers 18 and up
This is a special opportunity for current Calvert Stewards volunteers to get together with a park naturalist and explore a little-visited part of the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp property. We will trek through the winter swamp to the county champion bald cypress tree - the biggest of its kind in the county.
Registration Required. No walk ins or unregistered guests.
Guest policy - due to limited group size, any guests must also be volunteers and respond through their own account. Contact us if you have questions.
Meet at Battle Creek Nature Center.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please email your boot size to Tania @ tania.gale@calvertcountymd.gov
We will be wearing chest waders - I'll have these here at Battle Creek (unless you want to wear your own, which you are welcome to do).
We recommend wearing tall, well-fitting, wool socks that you can tuck your pants into and that will stay in place while squishing through the swamp with the waders on.
You may want to bring a towel and change of clothes, on the chance that you may fall in. If you plan to bring a camera or cell phone, bring a dry bag or double a Ziploc bag for protection.
If you would like to stay and have lunch together after, please bring lunch with you too!
A note about weather - the walk will be a "go" unless the day looks to be constant, cold rain all morning. If it is occasional showers, we will just shorten the walk to the cypress tree - and the program. Any weather updates will be made by 4:30pm on January, 11.
