A maximum of 15 volunteers are needed to remove invasive plant species within King's Landing Park in Huntingtown.
Duties will include:
-Pulling and disposing of stilt grass
-Removing and disposing of bamboo
Schedule:
Once a month beginning in May and ending in August. More dates will readily be made available according to interest and availability of volunteers and staff. Volunteers may work independently or in a group along with a staff member. Dates outside of those scheduled will be decided upon by volunteers and staff.
Time Commitment:
3 hours (or less depending upon heat)
Equipment:
Face masks must be provided by the volunteer and must be worn at all times. Rubber gloves provided by park staff. Heavy duty gloves and water bottles should be provided by the volunteers. Rakes, hoes, buckets, shovels, etc. shall be provided by King's Landing staff. Any additional equipment brought in by volunteers will be gladly accepted. No chemicals are permitted.
Skills:
Minimum knowledge of invasive species is required, although persons with knowledge of stilt grass and bamboo removal would be greatly appreciated. Staff will be present to educate and assist anyone who does not know much about these invasive species and their removal. Much bending will be required, as well as upper body strength to uproot bamboo.
Work also includes:
Possible exposure to poison ivy, thorns, flies, mosquitos, and ticks. Gloves are required to protect oneself.
