*This trip is open to any Calvert Stewards that have completed volunteer hours from Sept 2024- Aug 2025.*
Poplar Island is a 3 mile long island that is actively being restored and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration (MDOT MPA), and many other Federal and State environmental agencies. This island is home to many species of wildlife including Diamondback Terrapins, terns and many other species of birds.
We will meet at Kings Landing Park and travel to Tilghman Island to go on a boat tour to Poplar Island
We will get a guided tour while traveling around the island in a small bus. The tour staff will teach us about the history of the island, restoration process and the wildlife that call the island home. We may have opportunities to get out to search for birds as well so be sure to bring your binoculars and camera. Bring a packed lunch to enjoy at the nearby Back Creek Community Park. We do have a 12 person minimum that we have to meet in order for the trip to go.
