Description

Board Leadership Volunteers hold key positions on the board of directors, such as the Board President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. These roles are crucial for guiding the organization’s strategic direction and ensuring effective governance.

This opportunity can be used for general board activities that don't fit neatly in any of the other categories.

Tasks include:

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to ensure the organization meets its goals and objectives
  • Creating budgets and financial plans and ensuring departments that work with finances follow them
  • Finding and onboarding new board members, and pairing them with more experienced members for guidance
  • Recommending members for committees and appointing committee chairs
  • Evaluating the board's performance to identify areas for improvement
  • Upholding the organization's promises and obligations, and maintaining consistent attendance at board meetings
  • Ensuring the organization is compliant with its bylaws and that board members read and follow them

Skills Needed:

  • Strong leadership skills to analyze corporate structures, make key decisions, and act responsibly.
  • Strategic thinking and planning: Executives need to be able to think "big picture" and analyze the full effect of a problem, how to develop a strategic plan, how to use it to focus decision making, and how to translate it into an operational business plan.
  • Board leaders should communicate with Society members between meetings and in the boardroom. They should be honest and open, answer questions, and find out how they can help the directors.
  • Board leaders need general knowledge of governance.

Training: You'll receive training by staff and other volunteers to succeed in your role.

Schedule: Attendance at monthly board meetings is required. Additional hours outside of board meetings will be required to accomplish tasks, Volunteers will make their own schedule, and spend 4-10 hours per month on board leadership functions.

Qualifications: None
