You may have seen in the news recently that North America has lost nearly a third of all of its birds.
Join Naturalist Gene Groshon and Calvert County Breeding Bird Atlas coordinator Sherman Suter to learn how to turn your bird sightings into science and conservation! This is a great opportunity for birders of all skill levels to learn how to contribute valuable data on the breeding status of our regional birds.
The Breeding Bird Atlas is a collection of data about all of the birds that breed in a particular state or region. The Maryland-DC Breeding Bird Atlas was first conducted from 1983-1987, a second atlas was conducted from 2002-2006. We are now moving into a 3rd atlas that will extend this research across 40 years and help identify changes in our breeding bird fauna.
To be successful, we need your help! Volunteer assistance is needed to collect data on breeding evidence and report finding to eBird. This program will provide simple instructions on how you can help contribute to this very important study and give insight on data collected so far.
