Volunteer assists park staff in maintaining trails at Hughes Tree Farm in Prince Frederick.
Duties include:
- Remove debris and obstacles from trails
- Report unusual conditions, such as items too large or dangerous for volunteers, to staff
Schedule: Once a month, or more frequently as desired by volunteer. Actual dates and times determined by staff and volunteers. Volunteers will work independently, occasionally as a group.
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per month.
Training: Volunteers should arrange a time with Ian or Karyn.
Materials and Equipment: Hand tools and gloves (volunteers may bring their personal tools and gloves), band aids, and safety vests (blaze orange or yellow) are provided. Volunteers should bring water bottles and any necessary trail snacks.
Special Skills: Most work will be performed outside under varying weather conditions. Frequent exposure to weather and temperature extremes, noise, dust, and dirt should be expected. Work performed requires the exertion of moderate to heavy physical effort and may involve lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds.
Work also includes: exposure to poison ivy, ticks, mosquitoes, snakes, spiders and other wildlife.
