As Monarch Butterflies migrate down along the western coast of the Chesapeake Bay, Point Lookout State Park is their last stop before a long journey across the open waters. The park acts as a funneling point for all the migrants. Hundreds of Monarchs can be found during migration at this park, stopping to feed on the various fall blooms such as goldenrod.
Join us on our trip to Point Lookout State Park to catch and tag the butterflies. Training will be done on-site by Paige Stevens. This is a part of the Citizen Science project Monarch Watch.
Monarch Tagging Qualifications Required.
Tagging will take place from 10 am - 12 pm at Point Lookout State Park.
Please meet on site at Point Lookout State Park, 11175 Point Lookout Rd, Scotland, MD 20687.
Once you arrive at the park's gates, you will have to enter the park office and let them know you are there to participate in Calvert County Natural Resources' Monarch Tagging. They will then direct you around the gate. Please park and meet by the lighthouse.
Please do NOT wear bug spray and bring water. Long pants are recommended.
