Learn to teach Calvert County's 5th graders about how Oysters impact the health of the Chesapeake Bay.
Prior to responding to the Oysters CHESPAX volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must undergoing trainings and shadow All Oysters programs are now held at the Fishing Creek Boardwalk.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must successfully complete a Calvert County Public Schools background check and meet with CHESPAX staff to have their ID verified. This must be completed each year. at the beginning of the school year. Start at the school website: Become a Volunteer - Calvert County Public School District (calvertnet.k12.md.us) No fingerprinting is required. Select "Field Trip Chaperone" when asked.
- Must observe a minimum of two CHESPAX Oyster program days before they can teach a group on their own
- New volunteers must meet with the program leader (Tania Gale) for a new volunteer orientation
- Commitment - we ask for volunteers to commit to working at least 1 shift every other week during the season (September - early November)
Maintaining Qualifications:
- You must volunteer with an Oysters fieldtrip at least once in a 2-month time period. If it has been more than 2 months since you have volunteered, you will need to attend another observation day as a refresher
Preregistration is required - please sign up a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
