Join us for a fun day of bird banding at our Monitoring Avian Production and Survivorship (MAPS) bird banding station. You will learn why bird banding is an important part of bird research and get to see some birds up close and in the hand during the banding process.
Please bring a backpack, water bottle, packed lunch and comfortable closed toed hiking shoes. Even though it will be hot, pants (not shorts) are recommended as the trail can be lined with thorny plants and poison ivy. We will be hiking about 8 miles while checking the nets sometimes at a fast pace with limited chances to rest if it's busy.
When approaching Ward Farm Recreation and Nature Park from route 4 in Dunkirk you will take the first right out of the traffic circle to enter the parking lot. Park in the spaces on your right next to the soccer field. These will be the first spaces you will see when entering the park.
It is very important that you arrive on time as we have to check the nets at specific times.
