*Reschedule from 7/2 rain cancelation
Location: Gatewood Preserve, 2800 Grays Road, Prince Frederick
Join us for a fun day of bird banding at our Monitoring Avian Production and Survivorship (MAPS) bird banding station. You will learn why bird banding is an important part of bird research and get to see some birds up close and in the hand during the banding process.
Please bring a backpack, water bottle, packed lunch and comfortable closed toed hiking shoes. Even though it will be hot, pants (not shorts) are recommended as the trail can be lined with thorny plants and poison ivy. We will be hiking about 4.5-5 miles while checking the nets sometimes at a fast pace with limited chances to rest if it's busy.
Gatewood Preserve is located at 2800 Grays Road between Battle Creek Cypress Swamp and Biscoe Gray Heritage Farm. The entrance is not as visible as other parks so please drive slow. You can park along the fence to the right of the dirt road.
It is very important that you arrive on time as we have to open and check the nets at specific times.
