Enjoy a morning in the garden at Flag Ponds Nature Park. Volunteers (maximum of 8) will be needed to help restore a rain garden behind the Education Building. During the project we will be removing invasive stilt grass and other weeds, planting native plants, and watering. This opportunity is for both garden experts and those looking to learn more about native plant gardening!
Duties will include:
- Weeding
- Watering
- Planting
Schedule: Sunday, September 6 at 9 am
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours depending on availability of volunteers.
Equipment:
- Face masks must be provided by the volunteer and must be worn at all times.
- Gloves will need to be supplied by the volunteers.
- All volunteers should wear closed toe shoes and bring a water bottle.
- Hand tools will be provided by Flag Ponds Nature Park staff,
Skills: Knowledge of local plant life and gardening is helpful. Staff present will help educate volunteers on best practices and knowledge. Will require bending, kneeling, and moving heavy objects (up to 20 pounds).
Work also includes: Possible exposure to poison ivy, ants, bees, flies, mosquitoes, and ticks.
