Volunteer: 2025 Dragonfly & Damselfly Qualifications

This Opportunity is for volunteers wishing to become qualified for the Surveys. 

In order to volunteer with the surveys for dragonflies and damselflies, you first must complete the volunteer requirements below. Once qualified, volunteers are expected to log 15 hours each year. Qualifications will be reviewed each January.

If you are not interested in completing surveys, you can register for our overall Calvert County Biodiversity opportunity. and track your hours documenting flora and fauna through that opportunity.

To Become Qualified to conduct the Dragonfly & Damselfly Surveys the following is required:

Visit locations throughout the county to conduct thorough searches to document all dragonflies and damselflies found during the survey.  Photograph and identify the dragonflies and damselflies and submit observations  through iNaturalist, which will be included in the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Calvert County project (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/dragonflies-and-damselflies-of-calvert-county) Complete and submit data forms to Jason Avery.  For each survey, please record your hours. In the description include the location of your survey. New volunteers must complete three surveys to become qualified. Once qualified, volunteers are expected to log 15 hours each year. Qualifications will be reviewed each January.

This is a self directed opportunity. 

On-site Trainings will be provided on occasion.
